About
En Passante is a daily read on AI for people who build with these tools. It pulls from 26 sources — frontier labs, platform vendors, established press, and named analysts — clusters everything into stories, ranks them, and publishes a small number.
It is written for practitioners. The question behind every story is what does this change about how I build, not what happened.
How stories are chosen
Most of what arrives is not published. On a typical day the pipeline reviews around a hundred stories and runs about ten. The counts are printed on every issue, because a page that shows what it discarded is easier to trust than one that doesn't.
- Clustering first. When several outlets report one event, that is one story with several sources — not several stories.
- Sources are tiered. Primary (the party that did the thing), secondary (established press and named analysts), community (forums and aggregators). A story sourced only from community discussion never leads.
- Ranking is arithmetic, not a model. Source tier, independent corroboration, discussion volume, and recency. Legible on purpose — you should be able to reconstruct why anything ranked where it did.
- No single publisher can fill an issue. A prolific vendor blog is capped, so the page reflects the day rather than the loudest feed.
Where AI is used, and where it isn't
Each story's take is written by a language model from the source material, and the day's through-line is too. Both are labelled as ours and kept separate from the source's own words.
- When there is no through-line, the page says so. A model is never asked to manufacture a narrative that isn't there.
- Connections between stories are computed, not invented. Related coverage is found by entity overlap in our own archive. The model may only cite stories it was given, and anything else is discarded before it renders.
- No imagery that depicts a real event. An invented picture attached to real news is a fabrication, however stylish. Article art is abstract and generated from the story's own data — never a depiction of what happened — and is labelled as generated wherever it appears. The signature on each issue is generated from that issue's own numbers and can be recomputed from published data — see Signatures.
Sources and attribution
Every story links to its sources by name. En Passante is a place to find things and understand why they matter — not a substitute for reading them. If a piece interests you, the link goes to the people who did the work.
Corrections
Mistakes get fixed in place and the archive is not quietly rewritten. If something here is wrong, say so and it will be corrected.
Who runs it
En Passante is made by Passante, run by Brandon Passanisi. It is built and published by the same tooling it covers, which is part of the point.
